I know that I do book reviews on a Wednesday but i read this book within twenty four hours so I’m breaking the rules. Anyway this review is on before i go to sleep – SJ Watson
I’m a firm believer in reading a novel before watching a film. And when I watched the trailer for the movie I decided to get the book and read it before I had a chance to see the film, and I’m so glad I did!
First off the story is based on a woman called ‘Christine’. She has memory loss which occurs every night when she’s asleep, so when she wakes up it could be at any point in her life she remembers from. Every morning her husband had to explain who she is etc. then she gets a call from a man that claims to be her doctor and tells her to look in a shoebox in her wardrobe. This is where she had been hiding her secret journal documenting everything that happens each day. Everyday she reads what’s been happening prior and each day we learn more and more into her past. As the story proceeds you begin to pick up on details that’s don’t quite make sense and realize that something just doesn’t add up.
When I first started reading this I was little bit skeptical it was going to be similar to the romcom 50 first dates, but quickly I was pleasantly proved wrong and that it is a psychological thriller. The snippets from various memories in her life leave you piecing bits of the puzzle together and I must admit I was hooked on this book from chapter one and devoted my entire Sunday morning to finishing it. I highly recommend this book it was a brilliant read!
